Pibau Cymreig - Welsh Bagpipes - Pibgorn
01/18/09 03:51:13PM, by Ray Price
Hello all who are interested. As someone who makes his living as a bagpiper, I'd love to share a discussion on Pibau Cymreig, Pibgorn and bagpipes in general.I have many friends who play the Pibau Cymreig and Pibgorn - Antwyn from Carreg Lafar, Ceri from Fernhill and Jonathan from Taran included. I don't own either, but when the economy gets better, I intend to buy a Pibau. My pipes are the Breton "veuze" and the "English border bagpipe." Here's a photograph of my "Sonneurs de Couple" (myself...
Welsh Christmas story (Nadolig Llawen!)
12/22/20 09:43:36PM, by Rhian Waller
Hwyl, pawb! Sorry to crash back in like this after an absence of, er, eight years. I just thought you would be the kind of people who would appreciate this. It's a children's Christmas tale written especially because we can't do our usual seasonal storytelling this year. It's set in south Wales and based on a (mostly true) family story, but it came about because Teresa mayor of Yr Wyddgrug asked me to write it. This is her reading. I thought you or your kids might want to...

05/04/16 04:59:46PM, by David Western
I'm interested in hearing from Welsh and non-Welsh alike to learn what, in your opinion, constitutes a good Welsh love -spoon. What do you believe are the features which must be present for it to be a lovespoon and do you feel the lovespoon tradition is one worth keeping?
The Welsh Snow/Sand Castle Contest
01/13/09 04:53:03AM, by Ceri Shaw
With half the country under snow, we thought it would be fun to throw down the gauntlet in a photo contest challenge to who can create the best snow or sand castle (depending on your latitude) . The rules are pretty simple, make a castle/fort looking thing out of snow or sand, stick a Welsh flag on the top of it, take a picture and post it on this forum . If anyone fancies taking up the position of adjudicating the contest in exchange for offering a prize to the winner it would be...
Welsh-Canadian History, Sir Thomas Button
01/19/09 07:36:15PM, by gaabi
Sir Thomas Button is considered to the be the first Welshman to arrive in Canada and is most famous for "exploring and securing the west coast of Hudson Bay for [Britain] country he named the area New North Wales and New South Wales". In 1612, Sir Thomas commanded the ships Resolution and Discovery in a search for the fabled NW Passage, which didn't exist but his voyage mapped and explored Hudson's Bay and went on to a long naval career. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Button...
Welsh-Canadian History, Explorer David Thompson
01/19/09 07:47:25PM, by gaabi
At 14, David Thompson apprenticed (and indentured) himself to the Hudson's Bay company and in 1784, sailed for Canada. At the end of his indenture he requested, and was granted, a set of surveying tools and set off to become the most prolific land geographer in history. Thompson explored and surveyed more than 3 million square kilometers of North America. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Thompson_ (explorer) http://www.thefurtrapper.com/david_thompson.htm
teaching your children Welsh in the states..
07/22/08 01:51:30AM, by Dafydd Owain Hughes
..are there any other Welsh speakers out there, who have married a non-Welsh speaker and have children born here that they have a hard time teaching 'yr Iaith'.? My wife was born in northern Ireland to American parents; she would love for me to teach them Welsh, but I find it difficult in my every day schedule to do it. They know some basic phrases, but I feel like they will never have even a basic grasp of the language...being from Ynys Mon I would love it if they could retain some aspect of...

It has been a full year since my book, Internet Marketing How to get a Website that Works for Your Business was published by Constable and Robinson. It has led to many interesting and rewarding experiences from Speaking events in The UK and Europe to training course delivery and consultancy work.Although the book took nearly three years to research and write it was an experience in itself. "White House Medieval Find is of Welsh Origin"
05/21/13 08:11:34PM, by Gaynor Madoc Leonard
On Saturday, 1st April, 1995, Sion Barry of the Western Mail wrote this article:A medieval long-house believed to have been built by Welsh settlers has been unearthed under the grounds of the White House in Washington. The discovery, described as the archaeological find of the century, was made by a leading French geological team taking soil samples only 100 yards from the Clintons' bedroom.President Clinton announced yesterday that the partially excavated quarter-acre site had been designated...
